We will gather at Grace Court Park (in the 900 block of West 4th Street) beginning at about 10:30 am. Then at 11 am, a portion of the Gospel oif John is read, reminding us of Christ's walk to Calvary. The group, which typically numbers 80-100, will then process in silence through downtown Winston-Salem. Those who wish take turns bearing the cross. The procession, with police escort, winds its way through downtown Winston-Salem, between the bank towers, under I-40, up Cemetery Street, and alongside God's Acre, ending up at Salem Square. At Salem Square we will be met by the Brass Choir and join in a Good Friday liturgy together. The walk is about a mile and a half; our path takes us through downtown Winston. Each year, we have many people from different churches and denominations join us, of all ages. We often have a number of baby strollers and dogs who come along! Those who are physically unable to walk the entire way often meet the walkers at Saem Square and take part in the liturgy. The experience of this silent procession bearing the cross is profound and difficult to describe to those who have not done it. If you've never been a part of the Cross Walk, this is the year to try it - and invite a friend! This is an amazing testimony and a profound meditational experience.
