Church bells and a Moravian band will call us to gather for a lively and engaging service!

Items Needed:
This year, we are making goody bags for the City With Dwellings: Community First Center! The center provides a place for the homeless to go during the spring and summer when the shelters are closed. We are asking congregations during the months of July and August to collect items to go in the bags. Simply bring the items by the BCM Office before August 15 or let us know by then what you are collecting and bring the day of the festival. These bags will be packed as one of the activities and then blessed during the lovefeast and delivered the next day to the center.

Suggested Items:

• travel size personal care items
• socks
• water bottles
• snacks (such as packages of crackers)
• pens
• notebooks
• coupons to fast food restaurants

It’s our annual block party for all of our neighbors! It’s a great time to:

• MEET the neighbors;
• MAKE Crafts;
• COMPETE in a Cookie Baking Contest;
• LISTEN to great Music;
• DANCE!;
• EAT delicious FOOD;
• PLAY fantastic games, and
• HAVE FUN!

You will have an AWESOME time! We also give out school supplies to the *neighborhood* kids. It is time to start looking for those school supply sales!

Donations may be brought directly to Anthony’s Plot Community or to your local participating church. If your church would like a donation box, please contact us by Facebook message to Anthony’s Plot Community.

We need Trinity members to volunteer to staff tables with info on LOGOS and other community-centered programs of the church!

The Church Board will be meeting for a special planning retreat on Saturday, August 10 from 10 am until 3 pm.  They will begin with a session with Laura Watson from the Moravian Ministries Foundation to discuss stewardship programs.  They will then have a discussion of a book they have all read, led by Jonathan Sidden.  The book, Connect! by Don Corder, outlines practical steps that have been used in many churches to connect to people in the community that are seeking a place to serve and connect in community, and effectively invite them and integrate them in the church community.  The afternoon session will focus on specifics of adapting Corder’s ideas to our specific circumstances, identifying areas that we need to refine and organize, and shaping our plan for intentional outreach.

We invite all lay leaders of the congregation to read Connect! as well. It is available on Amazon as a Kindle e-book, as a hardback, and on Audible as an audio book.  There is a loan copy in the church office that members may check out after all Board members have finished reading.

Mr. Dennis Keith Stanfield, 63, of Winston-Salem, died Wednesday, July 18, 2019, at Trellis Supportive Care, after a lengthy battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). He was born in Winston-Salem on October 14, 1955 to the late Charlotte Snider Stanfield and Elbert Graham Stanfield, Sr. Mr. Stanfield was a graduate of Parkland Senior High School (class of 1974) and went on to earn undergraduate degrees from Wake Forest University and High Point University, as well as a Masters in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He spent a varied career of thirty-five years working in the areas of Information Technology, Real Estate, and Finance. Employers of note include Sara Lee Corporation, Lowe’s Companies, Wake Forest University, and most recently, The Moravian Church in America, Southern Province, where he served as Provincial Treasurer. Mr. Stanfield was a licensed Certified Public Accountant and Real Estate Broker. Dennis was a lifelong member of Trinity Moravian Church, where he taught Sunday School, served on both the Board of Elders and Board of Trustees, played softball for decades, ushered, served at Lovefeasts, and played in the band. Music was his first love, and he recorded a number of contemporary Christian and country songs, many of which were performed in church. Dennis especially loved sports and being active outdoors. He loved nature, and especially the splendor of the North Carolina mountains. Preceding him in death are his parents and his two beloved dogs. Surviving are a brother, Elbert Graham (Gray) Stanfield, Jr. and wife Vicki, and his long-time girlfriend, Cindy Reavis of Kernersville. He is also survived by a nephew and niece, a number of cousins and friends, and many Moravian Brothers and Sisters in Christ. A celebration of his life was held on Sunday, July 21, 2019, at Trinity Moravian Church, with the Rev. Bill McElveen, the Rev. Russell Williams, and the Rt. Rev. Graham Rights officiating. Interment was at Salem Moravian Graveyard, with the Rev. Ginny Tobiassen officiating. Memorials may be made in his honor to Trinity Moravian Church, 220 East Sprague Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27127, or to Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
