The May newsletter is now available for download as a PDF. If you know someone who does not have access to the internet, please let Pastor John or the Church office know — or print them a hard copy yourself and drop it off!
The April, 2020 newsletter is now available! Please download and read carefully since there is SO much that is different, especially with Holy Week and Easter! We will not be printing/mailing a physical newsletter this month (and probably next month). If you know someone who really can’t read a PDF, please print it out for them, or let Pastor John known and he will make sure to get them a hard copy.
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of LENT. It is a
tradition to observe this day with a service of repentance and the
Imposition of Ashes – a cross of ashes drawn on the forehead or hand
using ashes made from the burnt palms from last year’s Palm Sunday
service.
HOLY COMMUNION – Wed Feb 26, 12:30 pm. This brief
service held in the sanctuary includes Holy Communion (using the 1969
Red Hymnal) followed by the Imposition of Ashes. The service takes
about 30 minutes.
CATACOMB SERVICE – Wed Feb 26, 7:00 pm. This
multi-generational service includes the children of the LOGOS program.
The service is held by candlelight, reminiscent of the early Christians
who met in secret in the catacombs. The service includes a Cup of
Covenant service which the children can participate in, followed by the
Imposition of Ashes. The service takes about 30 minutes.
All who seek to follow Christ are welcome at both services.
This 2019 film starring Taraji P. Henson and Sam Rockwell is based on the true story in Durham, NC of the encounter between the Grand Wizard of the Ku Kux Klan, C. P. Ellis, and black activist Ann Atwater. While co-chairing a series of meetings on school desegregation, the two found their preconceptions about each other challenged – and they grew to be lifelong friends.
The film is rated PG-13 and contains material that may be unsuitable for younger audiences. The screening will be followed by small group discussions to explore how working together with people who are different than ourselves can produce lasting change.
SCREENING & DISCUSSION Sunday, February 16, 2020 – 2:00 pm Trinity Moravian Church 220 East Sprague Street Winston-Salem, NC 27127
Sponsored by the Moravian Team for Racial, Cultural, and Ethnic Reconciliation. Screening licensed through CVLI and through special arrangement with STX Entertainment.
The Trinity Board has created a new position, Young Adult Ministry Coordinator, for the year 2020, and has hired Madison White for that position. Madi is a Ministerial Candidate for the Southern Province, and is studying at Wake Forest Divinity School. She will also serve as intern for grad school requirements as a part of the position. Her role is to coordinate programs for younger adults and work with the leadership to create ministries that will be attractive to young adults and families in the community. Welcome, Madi!
We are pleased to announce the appointment of ROMAN BRADY as our new Director of Music. He started September 12. Long-term members know Roman, since he grew up at Trinity in the LOGOS program singing with the LOGOS Choir! Please take a moment to extend a warm “Trinity welcome” to Roman! He is a graduate of Western Carolina University with a degree in choral conducting, and serves as the chorus teacher at East Forsyth High School. He was formerly music director at Macedonia Moravian Church, and has served on the Board of the Board of World Mission and has been active at Laurel Ridge. He and his wife Ashley (who teaches chorus at North Davidson) are heavily involved in music in the “Moravian music scene.”
Thanks to the action of our Board and to a private donation, we are testing a new series of video ads and paid promotions on Facebook that integrate with new features on our church website. These are designed to target folks in a ten mile radius of the church, which encompasses most of Winston-Salem and surrounding communities. You can see the ads by visiting our Facebook group or our You tube Channel:
(Sorry, we can’t set up a nice, easy-to-remember channel like www.youtube.com/TrinityMoravian until we have 100 subscribers – so while you’re there, please subscribe!)New spots will be added as they are launched, and portions will be featured on a website. The special funding we have will fund three months of tests, and in January the Board will review the response to (and effectiveness of) the campaign and decide how we will proceed in 2020.
The Sunnyside Halloween Trunk-or-Treat, held cooperatively with Anthony’s Plot and Central Terrace UMC, has been a very successful event the last few years, with 200+ children and their families turning out. This year, we’re going to “crank it up another notch” with Halloween games in the Reich Fellowship Hall. In keeping with our emphasis on “CONNECT!” we will have an opportunity to meet the parents, and ask them to sign up for our neighborhood events email list.
The event will be held in the Trinity parking lot on Thursday, October 31 – Halloween night. Donations of candy and school supplies are being sought; those who wish to participate are invited to come in costume and decorate their cars! For more information, speak to Josh Hall or Kyle Wilson.
We

He studies currently at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts with Dr. Timothy Olsen.
Composing frequently, he has written a number of works for
orchestra, chamber ensemble, piano, organ, and voice, among other instruments.
