Thanksgiving Eve Lovefeast

Thanksgiving Eve Lovefeast

Thanksgiving Eve Lovefeast
On Wednesday, November 27th, we have invited several neighborhood congregations to come and join us for our annual Community Thanksgiving Eve service. This is an excellent service to invite friends and neighbors to attend – we will have posters and postcards available at the rear of the sanctuary that you can post or hand out. Your help will make this service a success! Please go out of your way to invite at least on other family to come and sit with you for this memorable service!

Chili Cook Off

Chili Cook Off

Sister Lauren Tripp is organizing another Chili Cook-Off, which will be held later in the afternoon on the same day as our Council meeting – from 3:00-6:00 pm. The last one was a huge success, we had eighteen very distinctive and creative expressions of “chili-ness,” we hope to have even more this year!
The proceeds from the Chili Cook Off will be divided equally between the general fund of Trinity Moravian Church and City with Dwellings (in honor of veterans who need overnight shelter in the winter months).

Chili entry fee: $5 Contact: Lauren Tripp laurenmarie0585@gmail.com

New Music Director

New Music Director

We are pleased to announce the appointment of  ROMAN BRADY as our new Director of Music.  He started September 12.  Long-term members know Roman, since he grew up at Trinity in the LOGOS program singing with the LOGOS Choir!  Please take a moment to extend a warm “Trinity welcome” to  Roman!  He is a graduate    of  Western Carolina University with a degree      in choral conducting, and serves as the chorus  teacher at East Forsyth High School.  He was     formerly music director at Macedonia Moravian Church, and has served on the Board    of the Board of World Mission and has been       active at Laurel Ridge.  He and his wife Ashley (who teaches chorus at North Davidson)  are  heavily involved in music in the “Moravian music scene.”

Facebook Advertising

Facebook Advertising

Thanks to the action of our Board and to a private donation, we are testing a new series of video ads and paid promotions on Facebook that integrate with new  features on our church website.  These are designed to target folks in a ten mile  radius of  the church, which encompasses most of Winston-Salem and surrounding communities.  You can see the ads by visiting our Facebook group or our You tube Channel:

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSFIDVO31jLyszmV4eS2dzg

(Sorry, we can’t set up a nice, easy-to-remember channel like www.youtube.com/TrinityMoravian  until we have 100 subscribers – so while you’re there, please subscribe!)New spots will be added as they are launched, and portions will be featured on a website.  The special funding we have will fund three months of tests, and in January the Board will review the response to (and effectiveness of) the campaign and decide how we will proceed in 2020.

Trunk or Treat

Trunk or Treat

The Sunnyside Halloween Trunk-or-Treat, held cooperatively with Anthony’s Plot and Central Terrace UMC, has been a very successful event the last few years, with 200+ children and their families turning out.  This year, we’re going to “crank it up another notch” with Halloween games in the Reich Fellowship Hall.  In keeping with our emphasis on “CONNECT!” we will have an opportunity to meet the parents, and ask them to sign up for our neighborhood events email list.

The event will be held in the Trinity parking lot on Thursday, October 31 –           Halloween night.  Donations of candy and school supplies are being sought; those who wish to participate are invited to come in costume and decorate their cars!  For more information, speak to Josh Hall or Kyle Wilson.

New Organist

New Organist

We are excited to announce that we have hired a new organist.  Matthew Cates, who has played as sub for two Sundays in July, was invited to apply for the job as permanent organist.  He will be serving under the direction of Oscar Hernandez, our Music Director.

Matthew Cates is an avid pianist, organist, and composer. Having a deep love for French Romantic and Impressionist music, he frequently performs the works of Duruflé, Franck, Litaize, Vierne, and Widor. He studies currently at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts with Dr. Timothy Olsen.

Composing frequently, he has written a number of works for orchestra, chamber ensemble, piano, organ, and voice, among other instruments. His works have been performed in North America and across Europe.

Matthew has studied and performed extensively in Europe as well. He’s seen extensive venues across the United States and Europe performing at the Washington National Cathedral, Duke University, Église de La Madeleine, Église Saint-Eustache de Paris, St. Bernard de La Chapelle, La Cathédrale Américaine de Paris and Notre Dame d’Auteuil, among others. He studied at L’Académie Internationale d’Orgue in Paris, France, where his teachers included Frédéric Blanc, Baptiste-Florian Marle-Ouvrard, François Espinasse, François-Henri Houbart, and Andrew Dewar.

In addition to his studies in Europe he has performed the complete works of Maurice Duruflé, and is a Maurice Duruflé scholar. Matthew has had the opportunity to be part of chamber groups and larger orchestra groups playing works such as his own “Chanson du Cœur”, Michael Daugherty’s “Bells for Stokowski”,and Vivaldi’s “Gloria”, as well as the opportunity to sing works such as Duruflé’s and Fauré’s Requiem.

He has won two superior prizes for piano performance, in the 2013, and 2014 ACSI piano competitions. His playing has been described in “The American Organist” as “technically and musically masterful. His love for the music is infectious.” (TAO July 2015). He placed 1st in the Seventh Annual UNCSA Organ Competition and Festival, and he also placed 1st, and won the prize for the interpretation of Bach in the 2018 ECU Organ Competition.
